About My Work

What My Art Is

My work expresses my response to scenes I encounter, or imagine, in the living of my
everyday life. Sometimes my art is a reaction to spoken or written words. More
recently, I am exploring ways to share with the viewer my passion about social
justice issues.

How I Create

For me, the design process starts with a rough drawing from my sketchbook which I further refine as I consider
content and design elements and the steps I will take to construct the work .  I sometimes use my computer to
continue refining the design. Various applications allow me to complete drawings, audition color schemes,
draw quilting and thread painting designs before I select my palette.

Why I Make Art

As an artist, I apply basic design principles as I work hoping to share or evoke an emotion, rouse a memory,  or
stimulate the viewer with a new idea. To me, my art is how I share my world with the viewer.

Materials Used

My palette is composed of many fabrics that provide color and texture. Once the underlying composition is
complete, I add threads of various colors and weights to add to the design and texture. It is not unusual for
me to use fabric paints and dyes in my work. Other times I may work with unusual materials such as
painted Tyvek or Lutrador. Sometimes additional embellishment is necessary to complete the statement
and vision.
